China’s cute tribe, indeed. The Temper Fact Checker presents the 5W flashcards of our most titillating and savory ones sauntering through the China Fashion scene, one brand or designer at a time. 5W, you ask? “Who, What, When, Where, Why,” we say. Come hither, Shiitake. Check!
Shiitake (希塔克in Chinese) is a fashion brand in that sprouted from the combined minds, comprehension of fashion and accessorizing adoration of designer duo Pearl and K. China’s cute tribe rejoices.
Starting from Season One, accessories such as bags and jewelry have always been an important part of the Shiitake embodiment. The designer team consistently relies on the re-interpretation and application of classical elements to generate a happy-go-lucky, girly, Gen Z-ish romantic brand.
Make no mistake, clad in her blue-and-white checkered chaste-full dress paired with white knee socks… Dorothy be cutting-edge, flexing the muscle and ringing the alarm here. Dorothy be a siren here.
Modern materials meet distinctive tailoring. The designers draw their inspiration from classical art, striving to refabricate a Roaring Twenties 2.0 pretty panache with a to the point profile. The exploration of nature and life serves as a roadmap to the desire for richness and romance.
Light and flowing tones, like China’s cute tribe women, awaking from their beauty sleep, still blushing from the dreams of an innocent but sexy prince charming – we are fighting the collective “enter: Kris Wu” urges here [the man on July 31 was detained by Beijing police on suspicion after a few-week online accusation saga; #MeToo in motion] – dream whisking them away for a romantic barefoot walk on the Bund.
Light yellow (apricot) long dresses. Pastel peachy pink doll dresses, coupled with a childhood double ponytail look, fans of the girly retro “court” style… Indulge away, we say!
Light designs inspired by Tales of the Four Seasons directed by French New Wave master Eric Rohmer, paint a fairly different picture, catering to the somewhat rougher palate – we use the term “rougher” loosely, still. The large color blocks – #yasss – unleash themselves onto wearers in a total of four colors, including ye court-beloved apricot and gentle pink, but also hot avocado green and classic black – #Tempertaste.
Pearl and K founded Shiitake in 2018, following their graduation from the London College of Fashion.
As Shiitake as of yet remains relatively unknown in the Western hemisphere, though we do believe that will change, we recommend you get your Weibo on:
A little too smooth around the edges for Temper taste, true, but we all crave a little bad romance every now and then.
