Temper presents five facts on our most fashion bone tickling brand of the day as featured in Labelhood’s live-stream lineup during Shanghai Cloud Fashion Week AW20. Labeled “FFIXXED Studios”: Check!
FFIXXED studios started out in 2008 as a Berlin-based creative collaboration between Kain Picken and Fiona Lau. The two have since then made their move to the Shanghai fashion playground, still work collaboratively, but now with the support of a small team.
Working from the notion of Enhanced Everyday Essentials, the duo looks at what’s around them as a starting point — ergo the definite Asian influence from that perspective.
FFIXXED is interested in reduction and simplicity, but also time and again chooses to interrupt those ideas with something more eclectic.
This brand is hands-on and exploring a more D.I.Y. (if you will) approach is of the essence to its core storytelling.
Digital or analog design, FFIXXED shows no interest in nostalgia or hierarchies, bust opts to play with different styles and channels of communicating.
Natural fibers, custom-developed fabrics, and personalized production techniques reside on the top of the designer agenda to physically touch upon issues of sustainability and ethical working practices.
As stated above, FFIXXED first saw the creative light back in 2008 in Berlin as a collaborative and fashion project focusing on unisex clothing.
The founding doublet in 2010 decided to pack up and relocate to Shenzhen, China’s garment-making hub, in order to be closer to the overall manufacturing process. The brand in late 2019 set up studio in Shanghai.
The brand in 2014 picked up the International Woolmark Prize (Asian Edition) in Womenswear– as a Hong Kong designer — as well as the 2015 YOOX.com Asian Sustainable Fashion Award.
FFIXXED in 2016 first took part in Shanghai Fashion Week as a part of the (then newborn) Labelhood incubator lineup.
FFIXXED collections are currently shown during Tokyo, Paris, Milan and Shanghai Fashion Weeks.
Online, you can get your gluttonous little fashion fingers on their deigns via good ole Lane Crawford, Lyst, and Henrik Vibskov Boutique, among others.
If that does not quench your thirst, check out the brand’s worldwide stockists
The FFIXXED collections respond to the construction of daily life, exploring notions of work and life in contempo urban culture, ever prioritizing movement and openness both conceptually and in material and functional terms.
It’s all about that laid-back simplicity, emphasized by modern cuts and a fluid, eclectic aesthetic.
Designing is all about disrupting the rules.
