Prove your humanity

Designer C.T. LIU, the brains behind the C+ Series, showed a range of diverse street styles with varying hemlines and fabrics at NYFW this September season. Meanwhile, given “staying true to the heart” is a core part of fashion as SEMIR would have it, the SS19 collab between SEMIR and CJ Yao brought us a blend of core values from both brands. Dare we ask… Blend or bland?

The SS19 C.T. Liu collection targets a career woman with an edge for navigating the metropolitan wilderness, incorporating streetstyle and athletic elements into each and every piece.

“The C+plus SERIES taps into extreme sports as a major inspiration this season, using metal yarn as the top layer yarn to create a glittering texture. The clothes are designed for the sublime nature of woman, translating her internal freedom into physical form.” PR NewsWire reviews C+ SS19. Image courtesy of PR NewsWire

Bouncing, twisting and twirling to the beat of the music bellowing from the boxes on 12 September aka NYFW, models sported windbreakers, coats and sweatshirts paired with shorts and jogger pants.

Staying true to the “heart,” as mega China TMall brand SEMIR would describe, is a core part of fashion and the brand’s collaboration for SS19 with designer CJ Yao brought about a blend of core values from both brands. Observing design aesthetic and with brand awareness, the dynamic duo put forth a collection of colorblocked (trademark CJ Yao) sportswear appealing to a wide-ranging audience across the world (trademark SEMIR).

Bouncing, twisting and twirling to the beat of the music bellowing from the boxes at Spring Studios on 12 September aka NYFW, models sported windbreakers, coats and sweatshirts paired with shorts and jogger pants, raging across the white, blue, yellow and black color ranges. Every style had its own flair, one more basic than the other, yet all decorated with zippers, tassels, toggles and stripes.

[Editor’s note: Bells and whistles everywhere, with the occasional original drop to drink. The world of athleisure is and has been booming for a while now so enter at your own risk.]

Breaking the boundaries of gender, age and occasion, the SEMIR X CJ Yao collection did still manage to make a statement even with its underrated detailing and trendy attributes.

SEMIR aims to bring its buyers and consumers the popular culture of fast fashion; from China’s new generation, with fleeting love. This season’s collection leaves no doubt about that. The styles were easy and adaptable, yet CJ Yao’s staple geometric and neat cutting style was slightly undermined by the sporty street elements so attributed to TMall favorite Semir.

Breaking the boundaries of gender, age and occasion, the collection did still manage to make a statement even with its underrated detailing and trendy attributes. It tapped into the more inspirational pool employing elements of the future whilst maintaining threads of traditional streetwear.

Brace those sports bras and tighten those straps to gracefully juggle the elements of the jungle. Bland at times, yet blended-brand fab at others… Athleisure isn’t running anywhere anytime soon. You, however, apparel-ly are.
